Every year, sometime in mid-April, Kungsträdgården in Stockholm transforms into a magical place. A pink canopy of blooming cherry trees spreads out, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that attracts both Stockholmers and tourists. It is one of the city's most beloved spring signs, and a tradition that many look forward to.
The cherry trees in Kungsträdgården are of the Prunus 'Accolade' variety and have been there since 1998. For a few weeks each spring, the trees enter full bloom, creating an almost fairytale-like view. The sky feels closer when the branches are filled with pink flowers, and the ground is covered with a layer of fallen petals, giving the feeling of walking on a pastel-coloured cloud.
It's no surprise that Kungsträdgården becomes one of Stockholm's most photographed places during this period. People gather to take pictures, enjoy a coffee under the trees, or simply soak in the wonderful atmosphere.
For those who want to experience the blossom in peace and quiet, it might be wise to come early in the morning. Then the park is tranquil, and you can enjoy the sight without the large crowds. But even during the busier hours of the day, the atmosphere is delightful – laughter, spring excitement, and happy faces fill the air!
